Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot announced, along with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Chicago Public Library, Alexandra Antoine will be Legler Regional Library's first ever artist-in-residence.

Legler Regional Library, which was recently renovated in West Garfield Park, will host events this weekend to introduce the local artist to the community.

"The incredible work she will create and lead over the next two years will deeply enhance Legler's impact on the West Side," Lightfoot said. "Her contributions will also complement the City's ongoing work to restore the social and economic vibrancy of West Garfield Park."

Antoine is originally from South Florida, and her work incorporates influences of Haitian culture in portraiture, food farming, and physical labor.

During a two year residency, Antoine will develop a public art projects and art programs to better connect the library with the surrounding community.

“I’m excited to begin my residency at Legler Regional Library and I’m looking forward to connecting with the Garfield Park community and beyond — and collaborating on wonderful art projects,” said Alexandra Antoine.
