CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago eighth-grader George Gray was recently named to the Scholastic Kids Press national reporting team.
The award-winning program for those ages 10-14 covers "news for kids, by kids" with coverage of politics, entertainment, sports and what's happening in their hometowns.
At 13-years old, he is one of 36 kid reporters across the country.
"I like sports journalism, and I also like writing stories about change happening in my community," George said.
Reporters were chosen based on their writing ability, interviewing skills and attention to detail.

The next-generation journalist found out he was selected just a couple of months ago and said he's already on deadline.
"I'm actually working on a story about XS Tennis' Chicago Fall Classic," George told WBBM Newsradio. "It's a tennis classic where some professional players are playing and it's right in my neighborhood."
George said he wants to pursue a career in either journalism or programming and technology, which is why he applied for the Scholastic program.
"I've always loved journalism, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some experience and enhance my ability to write," he said.
George's stories will be published online at the Scholastic Kids Press website, www.scholastic.com/kidspress, reaching an audience of more than 25 million kid readers.
