Tinley Park man carjacked twice faces felony gun charges for firing own gun
TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A food delivery driver in Tinley Park is vowing to fight a felony gun charge lodged against him. The man believes his actions were justified after facing a second carjacking in the span of a month.
Naser Zaghlol's car was stolen at gunpoint last month while he was making a delivery for DoorDash. He tried to stop the thieves who jumped into his car, but they shot at him. Zaghlol was not hit.
"The other guy next to him, he shot at me. Luckily, they didn't kill me," Zaghlol told CBS 2.
According to CBS 2, Zaghlol got his car back, but the thieves still had his key fob and knew where he lived. This week, the thieves arrived at his apartment complex in Tinley Park to steal his car again.
Zaghlol's son saw the men taking it again.
"They saw my car flying away from here, like taking off from here fast...They thought it's me. So he called me and said, 'What's going on, Dad?'"
Zaghlol then ran outside with his registered gun and fired three shots into the air. The gun is legal, he said, but police said using it like that wasn't.
He spent the night in jail.
"Only thing I was thinking, where is justice?" Zaghlol told CBS 2.
He's charged with reckless discharge of a firearm - a felony. Prosecutors said he endangered lives outside his apartment building in Tinley Park.
A judge released Zaghlol on a $10,000 recognizance bond. He said he plans to fight the charges.
Meanwhile, Zaghlol's car is missing again.
