(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Days after being pardoned by President Donald Trump, an Indiana man is dead after a traffic stop Sunday.
Indiana State Police say a Jasper County Sheriff's deputy pulled over 42-year-old Matthew Huttle of Hobart on State Road 14 and County Road 475 near the Pulaski County line just after 4 p.m. That’s a rural area about 55 miles east of Kankakee.
While details are unclear, investigators said the deputy attempted to arrest Huttle, but he resisted.
And that during an altercation, the deputy fatally shot Huttle, who they say was in possession of a firearm.
The deputy involved has been placed on leave for a full investigation.
Huttle was recently among those pardoned by the president for storming the U.S. Capitol in January of 2021.
He and his uncle Dale Huttle of Crown Point were both sentenced for their roles.
Dale reportedly refused to admit regrets or apologize for doing so with his nephew.
