Man stabbed on platform of Red Line Belmont station

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For at least the sixth time in the last month, someone has been stabbed on the CTA. In the latest incident, man was stabbed early Monday on a CTA train platform on the North Side.

According to Chicago police, a 27-year-old man was trying to pass two other men, who were arguing on the platform of the CTA Red Line Belmont station, when one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed him in his hand around 12:20 a.m.

Police arrested a suspect nearby and confiscated a knife. Charges were pending.

The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, according to police.

Since July 2, there were at least five other stabbings on the CTA including one in which a 68-year-old man died after being stabbed in the neck during an argument on a bus on 86th and Cottage Grove in Chatham. In another incident, a 49-year-old CTA worker was stabbed in the neck after accidentally spraying a woman with water as he cleaned a subway platform downtown.

July 21: 68-year-old man stabbed during an argument with someone on a CTA bus in the 2500 block North Damen in Logan Square.

July 20: 36-year-old woman was stabbed with her own knife when she was trying to defend herself from two attackers at the CTA Blue Line station at Cicero.

July 13: 25-year-old man stabbed while sitting on a CTA bus near North Ave and Clybourn

July 2: 67-year-old man was killed after being stabbed in the neck during an argument on a CTA bus on 86th and Cottage Grove.
