(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new art installation outside the Field Museum invites Chicagoans to offer their thoughts and feelings about COVID, racial justice and climate change.
The 4-foot high, 24 foot long “Mending Wall” may not look like what you expect from art, but it’s a bit of a blank canvas from the mind of artist Jenny Kendler.
“It’s a scaffold for a collaborative project that we really want to co-create with the public,” she told WBBM Newsradio.
Mending Wall encourages the public to help create art by writing down their hopes, fears and messages for future Chicagoans. The bits of paper with these reflections are to be inserted between the stones.
Michael Dimitroff, manager of art initiatives for the Chicago Park District, said the wall engages with observers.
“It has meaning, and folks will get meaning and then deposit meaning as well,” he said.
