(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — South Side middle school students got the chance to explore a state of the art recording studio.
A couple dozen students took the stage in the 35th Street Studios in McKinley Park, several of whom hopped on the mic during an interactive tour. The tour included information from the pros on pathways available for a career in the music industry.
Students got a look at the inner workings of the studio that has recorded influential names such as Chance the Rapper and Jennifer Hudson. Portions of Michael Jackson's “Thriller” were also developed here.
Finally, one of Chicago’s premiere Jazz and Blues percussionists, Kenny Coleman — a drummer who is sightless and has played on stage with several grammy winners — picked up the sticks to show everyone how it’s done.
Teachers and students finish the tour on stage, with a group rendition of "Candy Rain" by Soul For Real.
