(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The search for an 84-year-old missing woman with dementia has ended happily.

Officers of south suburban Markham found Olga Gutierrez in good condition Thursday morning in a vacant home.

Police Chief Jack Genius said officers searching the area heard a voice coming from the vacant house not far from Gutierrez's home on Arthur Terrace. She was found in the basement, on a mattress.

Genius said was surprised that someone with dementia and in her physical condition would be able to walk that far. She was reported missing last Sunday.

He said he doesn't know how she got to where she was found. The investigation continues.
