PARK RIDGE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It's been on the minds of many people since President Biden announced it Sunday, so WBBM asked some folks Monday morning what they think of his call to drop out of the race.

"Shocked," "stunned," "sad" or "not surprised," the reactions at the UP-NW line Metra station ran the gamut.

Todd Showalter was in the stunned camp.

"[It's] surprising that you would give up such a position of power, and ultimately it was a decision that was probably very difficult for him and his family, but in my opinion, I think it's best for the country," Showalter said.

Anne felt the media and the Democratic establishment have treated Biden shabbily by focusing so much on his age and debate performance.

"That was the entire narrative," she said. "There was no focus on the craziness that comes daily from the other candidate…That's just my feeling."

She was among the few people we've spoken to who are excited about Kamala Harris as the potential Democratic nominee. She said the vice president is very qualified.

One man at the Park Ridge Metra station doesn't see much of a difference now that President Biden has decided to pull out.

"I honestly don't think it changes anything…It's all going to be the same, policy-wise nothing is going to change," he said.

Jeff Fischer of Park Ridge said, based on Biden's debate performance last month and recent speeches, he's not surprised he dropped out.

"I think it is apparent that, Biden, he no longer has the cognitive ability to run the country, so I think that having another candidate step up and maybe have a better chance for the president nomination. I think it's the right decision," Fischer told WBBM.

One woman said she's not sure she'll vote because she doesn't like either former President Trump or Vice President Harris. A reluctance we heard from more than one person.

"I think it's utter chaos, and I think that eventually we'll see how it shakes out, but I don't think anyone knows right now what the next steps are," Showalter said.
