Historic Day For Chicago As Presidential Center Opens
One day after Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and other luminaries christened the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago's South Side, the Center officially opened for visitors on Friday.
Thousands of people from all over the world gathered for the grand opening of the Obama Center at 6001 South Stony Island, even those who did not actually have tickets to go inside.
Among the many visitors was Arthea Perry, who told WBBM, "I'm from Birmingham, Alabama...(and saw) the boiling point for the segregation era. I'm 75 years old, so I have lived through a lot of it from the children marching, to the 16th Street bombing, through the Ku Klux Klan and all of that, so this is just a blessing for me to see all of these coming together."
Michael Thompson of Chicago spoke to WBBM right after he walked out of the Center, saying "it was surreal. It was amazing history, the history of our country, the history of this city, just getting a chance to really celebrate and reflect on a very powerful legacy."
Tickets for the Obama Presidential Center are sold out at least through November.
