(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Chicago City Council panel has approved a measure requiring regular reports on the city’s efforts to combat homelessness.
Without debate, the Health and Human Relations Committee approved the proposed ordinance, which would require the Department of Family and Support services to prepare quarterly reports about what the city is doing to help people who are unhoused.
Sponsoring Ald. James Cappleman, 46th, is a former social worker.
“We have moved light years ahead as a city in the way we address homelessness,” he said Thursday. “I’m very, very proud of the hard work that Department of Family Support Services has done to make that happen.”
He noted a number of city agencies are involved in the fight to end homelessness.
Cappleman said the measure, which goes before the full City Council, is not meant as a statement about the incoming mayor, Brandon Johnson.
The idea is to keep the city efforts moving forward, he said.
