(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in northwest suburban Des Plaines have released video and other materials about the fatal May 24 shooting of a resident who came at officers while holding an axe.
Police responded to an apartment building on Thacker Street after 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call about a man in man in mental distress who was damaging property.
Body-cam videos (available here; caution, explicit content) show officers walking down a corridor when a man comes out holding an axe. Officers fatally shot 55-year-old Scott MacDonald.
Des Plaines authorities say a police investigation continues into the incident and release of the materials Thursday is part of a transparent process.
"The tragic loss of life impacts all of us across the City, and we will issue additional information as it becomes available," officials said in a news release.
