Fifty-two percent of Chicago residents said they can't afford homes in the neighborhoods they're currently living in, a new Harris Poll with Crain’s Chicago Business found.
The poll found that many Chicagoans are worried about housing in the city.
Among those included in the poll, researchers found that two out of five Chicagoans spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing.
That number was worse, though, for folks who make less than $50,000. In that demographic, nearly two-thirds of the respondents said they spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing.
Additionally, about one-third of the poll’s respondents said they expect the affordable housing situation in Chicago to get worse.
Poll results showed, though, that 44 percent of those surveyed said they expect the post-COVID economic recovery will improve in five years.
