CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The most recent statistics suggest hundreds in the Chicago Police Department are still not vaccinated for COVID-19.

There had been months of finger-pointing between Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Cantanzara over the city’s vaccine mandate.

Now, under a court-ordered arbitrator’s ruling, some  1,200 employees of the department had until Wednesday  to get the second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the first shot of the Johnson & Johnson.

According to the Tribune and the latest available figures, more than 2,000 police department members remain unvaccinated. Most of those have exemptions. But this means some 500-600 police employees could be refusing the vaccine without an exemption.

The mayor’s office has in the past threatened city employees with disciplinary action for not complying.
