(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Local remaining Bed Bath & Beyond stores stay open for now, despite the New Jersey based home goods chain filing for bankruptcy protection over the weekend.

Bed Bath & Beyond made the filing Sunday in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey and said it will start an orderly wind down of its operations, while seeking a buyer for all or some of its businesses. In the bankruptcy filing, the retailer said it anticipates closing all of its stores by June 30.

For now, the company's 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and its 120 Buy Buy Baby sites as well as its websites will remain open to serve customers.

The store locations in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin that are still open include:

Willowbrook- 7175 Kingery Highway

Chicago- 1800 North Clybourn Avenue

Frankfort- 11165 West Lincoln Highway

Downers Grove- 1548 Butterfield Road

Skokie- 5545 West Touhy Avenue

Naperville- 336 South Route 59

Deerfield- 96 S. Waukegan Road

Rockford- 6309 East State Street

Mishawaka, Ind.- 5802 Grape Road

Greendale, Wis.- 5445 South 76th Street

In the past eight months, the struggling big box retailer has already closed over 200 stores, including locations in Illinois-Gurnee, Schaumburg, Joliet, Kildeer and Bourbanis-, and Indiana-  Schererville and Valparaiso.

Founded in 1971, Bed Bath & Beyond had for years enjoyed its status as a big box retailer that offered a vast selection of sheets, towels and gadgets unmatched by department store rivals.

But for the last decade or so, Bed Bath & Beyond struggled with weak sales, largely because of its messy assortments and lagging online strategy that made it hard to compete with the likes of Target and Walmart, both of which have spruced up their home departments with higher quality sheets and beddings.
