Months of work, and close to a million dollars of donations, have part of a South Loop church looking better than ever.

“It’s an exciting time.”

We chat with Andy Pierce, Executive Director of the nonprofit Friends of Historic Second Church, here inside of the downtown church.

“Friends of Historic Second Church have been fundraising for three years. The window has been away for 14 months. This is the summit of all of that work to bring back Tiffany’s jeweled window.”

Which crews are re-installing in Second Presbyterian this week.

“It’s floral, it’s also foliage, and it has this kaleidoscope or rainbow appeal of all of these glass jewels that are mounted in it. So if you look at it from the side, it really is a 3D creation of art, and all of those jewels just glisten in the sun.”

Pierce says the best way to see the restored stained-glass window is in person. The church does offer free tours on weekends.

“Photos do not do it justice.”
