(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Accusations of unsafe and unsanitary working conditions have led eight cargo and luggage handlers at O'Hare to ask federal regulators to investigate their employer, Swissport Cargo.
Chris Enterline, a cargo ramp agent, said Swissport management refuses to address issues like broken equipment, rodent infestation, over-exposure to extreme heat or cold and a lack of safety equipment.
“There’s nobody who works there for any length of time that doesn’t come away with some sort of injury. I know people that walk with a limp for the rest of their life because they worked at Swissport. I know people who are missing digits from their fingers. I know people who have nasty scars.”
In a written response, a spokesperson for Swissport said worker safety is a top priority for management, and that numerous training and safety measures are in place to protect Swissport workers at O'Hare.
