(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A lawsuit has been filed seeking to invalidate the Evanston City Council's rezoning that allows Northwestern University to rebuild Ryan Field for football games and concerts.

The suit alleges Mayor Daniel Biss and some council members sold out Evanston residents for monetary contributions from the university. The plaintiffs are the Most Livable City Association and some residents of Evanston and Wilmette.

Evanston resident and retired judge Andrew Berman lives 600 feet from the stadium and supports the suit, though he's not a plaintiff.

The suit alleges there were more than a dozen secret meetings. It says the mayor – the tie-breaking vote -- and some council members ignored the findings of the land use commission, which voted 7-2 against concerts.

The suit is about concerts, not a new stadium.
