CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — New concerns over COVID-19 variants and case numbers aren’t stopping the return of an annual tattoo convention in Rosemont this weekend.
Troy Timpel is an organizer of the annual Chicago Tattoo Arts Convention and told WBBM Newsradio he's ecstatic to see it return in 2021 after a year off during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I'm really happy that the vaccination rates are what they are here for us to, you know, really safely resume running large-scale events again in Chicago," Temple said.
In hopes of making those vaccination numbers even better, Cook County Health officials are on hand for the weekend-long convention offering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
"It feels a little weird," Kid Watson, a local tattoo artist, told WBBM Newsradio. "And social media and, like, being back, everybody knowing that we're out here is important. Yeah, it's being back is great."
The 11th Chicago Tattoo Arts Convention, which began Friday and ends Sunday, will feature more than 400 tattoo artists.
