CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An 18-year-old from Aurora is charged with a felony for allegedly being a very prolific tagger in Naperville.
The graffiti or tagging mostly occurred in September and October, according to police. The nonword word "SMILZ" started appearing in spray paint and marker on buildings, fences and electrical boxes in about 50 locations all over town.
According to police, it costed more than $5,000 to clean it all up. There was surveillance video from some of the tag locations and police said that's how the suspect was identified.
Marcion Carrington was arrested earlier this week and charged with one felony count of criminal defacement to property.
Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the tagging or has surveillance video themselves which could lead to more charges.
The word "SMILZ" could be a graffiti tagger name but that part is unclear.
