(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Family events planned for the spring and summer are being cancelled in some south suburbs, 10 days after a flash mob of 400 teenagers upended the Armed Forces Weekend Carnival in Tinley Park.

The most recent cancellation came last Friday, when the Chicago Ridge Village Board voted to scrap plans for Ridge Fest, which had been set for late July.

"And apparently some of the trustees had seen that this same flash mob that showed up in Tinley were looking for other places to do this again -- that's a scary thought,” said Chuck Tokar, mayor of Chicago Ridge, who agrees with the decision.

As a sidebar to all this: Ridge Fest was set to feature controversial and outspoken rocker Ted Nugent, who has appeared at the event before.

"Maybe the board was thinking it might be right-wing against left-wing out there in the middle of the park, I don't know,” Tokar said. “But once that flash mob happened in Tinley, I think the writing was on the wall."

Other recently cancelled events: the Posen Park Fest Carnival and the Most Holy Redeemer Church Carnival in Evergreen Park.
