CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- We are more than half way through May, and there are plenty of signs that summer is right around the corner! And this weekend's weather is definitely going to feel more like summer, so get outside and enjoy everything the city has to offer!

As coronavirus mitigations begin to ease, capacity limits are increasing, so why not check out one of Chicago's museums or zoos? Or dine outside at your favorite restaurant? This is also one of the final weekends to check out the pop-up Friends Experience at The Shops at Northbridge!

And if you are wanting to get your body ready for summer, all while enjoying some culture, check out Gogh with Lifeway Immersive Yoga. Plus, this weekend ComEd is "switching on summer" and turning on the Buckingham Fountain.

ComEd's "Switch on Summer"

Get ready for ComEd’s 7th annual Switch on Summer, which celebrates the start of summer with the turning on of Chicago’s iconic Buckingham Fountain! For everyone's safety, ComEd is bringing the summer tradition to the comfort of your home. You won’t want to miss this livestream event featuring special guest appearances, including WGN-TV Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot, ComEd CEO Joe Dominguez, and music by Papo Santiago y su Orquesta, curated by the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center. And for the first time in over a year, a ComEd sweepstakes winner will once again revive Chicago's Buckingham Fountain with a flip of a switch. Fireworks burst over Chicago's Navy Pier

To celebrate its reopening, Navy Pier is hosting a special 10-minute fireworks show every Saturday in May at 9 p.m. Guests are welcome to enjoy the display from the Navy Pier’s open areas. A summer schedule is expected soon. MORE INFO.

The Friends Experience

The Friends Experience: The One in Chicago allows fans to explore Friends like never before with set re-creations, original props and costumes, photo ops and more. Visitors can recreate some favorite moments including peaking around Rachel and Monica’s purple door, relaxing in Chandler and Joey’s recliner, or helping Ross with the infamous sofa pivot. And of course, the space features a recreated Central Perk with the legendary orange couch. MORE INFO.

"Monet and Chicago" acts as an homage to the city's connection to the “father of Impressionism,” showcasing a mixture of major works as well as rarely seen sketches and landscapes sourced from local collections. Visitors will be able to take in early works like Apple Trees, Vétheuil and On the Bank of the Seine, Bennecourt, as well as canvases from his Stacks of Wheat series. MORE INFO.

Immersive Van Gogh

Step inside of Starry Night and The Bedroom in Arles with the help of more than 75 digital projectors in this high-tech exhibition that explores the work of Vincent Van Gogh. Designed by the Italian creative team that worked on the "Atelier des Lumières" exhibitions in Paris, "Immersive Van Gogh" covers 35-foot walls with animated versions of the Dutch painters work, accompanied by a score that blends electronic and classical compositions. Grab a mat and enjoy a 35-minute yoga class lead by CorePower Yoga instructors inside of the "Immersive Van Gogh" experience. Each workout is designed to challenge the body and inspire the mind; choreographed in harmony with the music, sounds, light, and moving images from Van Gogh’s vast catalog of masterpieces. After your class, guests are invited to stay and experience the art around them one more time. The home of Chicago's only Infinity Mirror Room (created by Japanese Yayoi Kusama) is open to the public once again, presenting a new collection of one-of-a-kind art installations alongside some old favorites. New additions to WNDR Museum include a multi-sensory experience from S̶A̶N̶T̶IA̶G̶O̶X that uses artificial intelligence, sounds, visuals and scents, as well as an installation called I Heard There Was a Secret Chord that allows guests to become part of an evolving virtual choir. MORE INFO.
