(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A legendary lost ocean liner lives again at a north suburban shopping mall.

It's been 112 years since the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage. Yet the passage of time has not dimmed our interest in the subject.

A new immersive exhibit, "Titanic: The Exhibition," has opened at Westfield Old Orchard. It allows visitors to see artifacts and re-creations of some of the interior spaces of the ship.

The presentation is a homecoming of sorts for Imagine Exhibitions CEO Tom Zaller, who said the Titanic artifacts exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry more than 20 years ago changed his life.

"It was a whole other world to me," he tells WBBM Newsradio.

Zaller visited the wreckage site in the late-1990s. He says it is a moving experience to sail above the decks and to pay his respects to what is a gravesite for more than 1,000 people.
