Tokyo Summer Olympics: Look out for these Chicago area athletes

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Dozens of athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics have ties to the Chicago area.

If you’re watching the summer Olympics, here are a few local names to look for.

Lincolnwood native Jewell Lloyd is competing in women’s basketball alongside Chicago Sky’s Stefanie Dolson.

Felicia Stancil graduated from Grayslake North High School and hopes to place in women’s BMX cycling.

Two-time Olympian Ryan Murphy will be competing in the men's 100m and 200m backstroke. He was born in Palos Heights.

Wheaton resident Thomas Jaeschke joins Team USA’s men’s volleyball team as an outside hitter. He previously competed in the Rio Olympic Games.

Seven-time World Cup medalist and Geneva native Kevin McDowell will take on the men’s triathlon in Tokyo.

Nicole Sladkov, originally from Vernon Hills, will compete in the women’s group rhythmic gymnastics. She’s also part of the North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center.

New Trier Township high school alumna Maggie Shea is going for gold in sailing. The Wilmette native grew up sailing on Lake Michigan and competed in the Chicago Yacht Club’s junior sailing program.​

These athletes are just a few among a list of Olympic athletes with ties to the Chicago area and Midwest.
