CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A family in Will County is closer to having a new home after parishioners of seven southwest suburban Catholic churches started building walls Friday and Saturday.

Fellow parishioners ranging in age from 4 to 70-something came out to the parking lot of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Orland Park to help Larry McGrenera and others work on the Habitat for Humanity project.

“We had 50 people come over yesterday and today we have about 225 people making the walls and loading them into the truck,” McGrenera told WBBM Newsradio.

Crossroads mission set up the templates for the 150 walls for the duplex and approves the volunteers work before its sent to the home site.

Along with St. Francis, parishioners of Incarnation Catholic Parish in Crestwood, St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Orland Hills, St. George Church in Tinley Park, St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in Tinley Park, St. Michael Parish in Orland Park and St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Catholic Church in Tinley Park helped raise money and volunteered for the project.
