(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A North Chicago man is accused of kidnapping a Wisconsin woman after convincing her and another motorist they had a flat tire that needed repairing, officials said.
The incident unfolded early on Feb. 25. Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency call from a witness who said her friend had been kidnapped by a man. The witness told officers that they had left a nightclub in Waukegan when a driver pulled alongside them on Route 41 near Hanssen Road and said they had a flat tire.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Jonatan Luna-Carrasco, allegedly encouraged the woman to say warm inside his car and drove off with her. The woman was able to jump out of the car in Gurnee and run to a home to ask for help, officials said.
Detectives think Luna-Carrasco was trying to take the woman to an unknown location and “made sexually suggestive comments after kidnapping her,” the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Gurnee police aided the kidnapping victim before deputies arrived. Within weeks, detectives used camera technology to zero in on a vehicle and identify Luna-Carrasco as a suspect.
He was arrested in Waukegan on March 30 and was being held at Lake County Jail on kidnapping charges, officials said.
Anyone who thinks Luna-Carrasco has been involved in similar incidents is urged to call 847-377-4000.
