A motorist who was driving the wrong way when he slammed into another car, killing the woman driving it late Sunday on the South Side in in police custody.
Police have not announced charges.
Around 11:20 p.m., a black SUV drove in the wrong direction and struck a white sedan head-on in the 4000 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said. That collision then caused a chain-reaction crash involving the white sedan and a black coupe, according to police.
The 35-year-old woman, who was driving the sedan, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she died, police said.
A man driving the black SUV was taken into custody by responding officers and was not injured.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
