CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Muddy Waters' home in Chicago is one step closer to being designated a city landmark after a vote in a City Council committee Tuesday.

Members of the zoning committee voted unanimously to approve the brick two-flat at 4339 South Lake Park Avenue on the South South Side as a landmark.

Muddy Waters lived in the North Kenwood home for 20 years and his descendants want it preserved as the epicenter of the blues universe. The great-granddaughter of the man originally known as McKinley Morganfield has been pushing to make the home into a museum.

The measure now goes to the full City Council on Thursday.
