NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man shot and killed by police on Wednesday morning was the suspect in the fatal shooting of a father and son during an argument over noise at their Brooklyn apartment building earlier this week, the NYPD said.

Jason Pass—who had remained at large since Sunday night’s double homicide in East Flatbush—died at a hospital after "numerous" officers discharged their weapons at him as he charged at them with a knife outside 187 Bay 44th St. in Gravesend around 7:30 a.m., NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said.

Multiple officers were also taken to a hospital for observation but none suffered any serious injuries.

Maddrey confirmed at a morning briefing that Pass, the 47-year-old prime suspect in Sunday's "particularly vicious double shooting," was the man fatally shot by cops.

The warrant squad was actively searching for Pass when uniformed officers from the 60th precinct drove past his vehicle at Bay 44th Street and Bath Avenue while out on patrol at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday. Maddrey said a license plate reader on the officers’ patrol car alerted them that the vehicle was linked to a double homicide suspect.

The officers called for backup, turned around and approached the vehicle with Pass inside. He ran away, leading the cops on a one-block foot pursuit to 187 Bay 44 St., where police spoke with him for about 15 minutes. But he eventually charged at cops with the knife in his hand, and multiple officers opened fire, striking him in the chest and right leg, according to police.

“The officers were able to surround the male,” Maddrey said. “They established dialogue, they spoke for a few minutes. And then at a point, the male, who was armed with a knife, lunged at one of the officers, causing the officers to fire for their own safety. Numerous officers discharged their weapon.”

Pass was transported by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where he succumbed to his injuries, Maddrey said.

Multiple officers were transported to Maimonides Medical Center for ringing in the ear.

The NYPD's Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting, as is protocol.

Police had been searching for Pass in connection with the fatal shooting of the father and son—Bladimy Mathurin, 47, and Mode Chinwai, 27—who were gunned down in a fourth-floor hallway of their apartment building at 1418 Brooklyn Ave. around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police believe Pass confronted the father and son, who were his upstairs neighbors, about noise coming from their apartment.

The three men were arguing in the hallway when Mathurin brandished a pair of scissors and Pass whipped out a gun and unleashed a hail of bullets, striking the two victims, according to police.

Surveillance video is said to show Pass taking an elevator to the lobby and fleeing the scene after the shooting.

Pass had been disputing with the family for years over noise, with at least six 311 calls related to the issue made from Pass' apartment since March 2022, according to WABC.
