Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt has a new gig.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the 53-year-old will work in the on-field operations department at the MLB Commissioner's Office.

After parts of four seasons as the skipper of the Cardinals, Shildt was fired in October. This was despite the Cardinals going 46-26 after the All-Star Break and reaching the Wild Card Game. Shildt even managed to finish third in National League Manager of the Year voting, which we didn't learn until over a month after he and the Cardinals split.
Britt Ghiroli and Dennis Lin of The Athletic reported just days after being let go by the Cardinals that Shildt was likely to interview for the San Diego Padres managerial vacancy. That job ultimately went to three-time Manager of the Year Bob Melvin, who the Oakland Athletics allowed out of his contract to take the position.
Shildt has a 252-199 (.559) career managerial record.
