PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan)The 2021 MLB season is under way and the Pittsburgh Pirates are preparing to use alternate training sites around the city for some extra players.
The alternate training sites have been described as the “AAA roster plus a few people.”
Saturday morning, the Pirates announced who will be starting the season at those sites.
Some notable names on their list start with pitchers knuckleballer Steven Wright, James Marvel, Edgar Santana, and Geoff Hartlieb.
Veteran Catcher Joe Hudson and Todd Frazier will be starting at the alternate site.
Frazier, you might remember, opted out of his deal with the Pirates before inevitably resigning in Pittsburgh all before the end of Spring Training.
Other infielders on the list are Oneil Cruz and Wilmer Defo.
Cole Tucker is not on the list but has yet to be finalized by the Pirates, Tucker could be added later.
Rounding out with outfielders, Travis Swaggerty and Troy Stokes Jr. made the list.
