PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) It was announced in late July that Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was selected to coach Team USA Hockey in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
When that announcement was made, there was still uncertainty regarding the participation of NHL players.
On Friday, Sept. 3, it was officially announced that NHL players will be allowed to participate in the 2022 Olympics in Bejing.
Not only was it announced that the players will be returning, the rest of Team USA’s coaching staff was revealed and that came with more Penguins’ representation.
Penguins’ assistant coach Todd Reirden was announced as Team USA’s assistant coach, along with John Hynes of the Nashville Predators, David Quinn formerly of the New York Rangers, and recently retired goalie Ryan Miller.
Off the ice, Penguins’ video coach Andy Saucier was also selected to be Team USA’s video coach.
So far, without a single player being announced, the Penguins already have a fair amount of representation on Team USA.
