An elderly Texas couple is facing federal charges after they were caught trafficking more than 345 pounds of cocaine through a South Texas checkpoint.
On July 1, 80-year-old Luke David Brader and 74-year-old Susan Brader were apprehended at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Falfurrias after a K-9 alerted agents to their trailer, leading to the discovery of 134 packages of cocaine concealed inside a hidden compartment.
According to USA Today, the couple told agents that they knew illegal narcotics were inside the trailer they were hauling and were expecting to be paid between $5,000 and $10,000 to transport the drugs to Houston.
The couple appeared in federal court on July 6, and are each facing charges of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.
