As many parents know, school has changed quite a bit since they were students. Between new technology and changes to subjects, some struggle to keep up with their child’s learning. Now, students at Anna ISD schools will have something else that once seemed unimaginable back in the day, as the district recently announced they will change to a four day school week starting in the 2023-2024 school year.
On Friday, the Anna Independent School District school board announced plans to change to a four day school week had been approved. According to WFAA, the school surveyed parents and staff back in 2022, with 72% of parents and 87% of staff in favor of the adjustment. "School leadership expects the 4-day week to increase student achievement with more opportunities for intervention, and help with teacher retention and recruitment," said the district.

The changes will reportedly be a three year pilot. Anna isn’t the first Texas district to change to a four day school week, as Mineral Wells ISD, Tioga ISD, Chico ISD, Rains ISD and Alba-Golden ISD recently did the same. With these changes, parents now have a new reason to start off a sentence with “back in my day.”
