As if we don't have enough things to worry about these days, it seems the Lone Star State is about to be inundated with a high presence of black widow spiders.
Black widow spiders are a "solitary" creature says Daniel Shank, the owner of Broken Arrow Pest Control, and because people aren't getting out as much because of busy scheduled due to work and after-school activities, the spiders are being left alone to do nothing but reproduce.
Shank told KTRE, "People aren't getting out as much. So, they're not doing a lot of things around their property so they're not encountering them that much."
Shank says the first step in avoiding interaction with black widows is to declutter areas around your home, especially areas that are dark and hidden, which black widows prefer to build their webs.
"Corners, crevices, say if you have a brick home, I've seen them get up in weep holes, behind downspouts on your gutters. Water hose reels, where you keep your water hose," he says.
Shank advises to always approach the spiders with caution, though.
"They are up on that list of the most poisonous spiders that are a threat to people," he said.
