It takes more than just beauty to win the Miss Texas crown. Previous winners have come from all walks of life, and this year’s winner will continue that tradition. Carrollton’s own Averie Bishop was recently named 2022’s Miss Texas, becoming the first Asian American woman to win the crown.

Over the weekend, Averie Bishop was named Miss Texas at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, adding yet another accolade to her already impressive resume. A graduate of SMU’s Dedman School of Law, Bishop is currently a member of Mayor Eric Johnson’s 16-person Anti-Hate Advisory Council, advising the city and Dallas Police department on how they can respond to and prevent hate crimes. “Big congratulations to SMU Alum Averie Bishop ’19, ’22 for becoming the first Asian American woman to be crowned as Miss Texas!” tweeted her alma mater.

According to CW33, Bishop is a first generation law student and marathon runner, who claims to have dined with two presidents. Now, with her Miss Texas crown, Bishop has plenty of bragging rights. Even though she represented Carrollton, Bishop made all of DFW proud.
