Chili’s customers have been ordering the chain’s beloved baby back ribs for years, not only because of their taste but also because of the iconic jingle used to promote them in commercials. Now, the man who founded the Texas-based restaurant is giving some other traditional barbeque dishes a try, as he plans to open a barbeque restaurant in Grand Prairie next week.
On March 6, Larry Lavine, the man who founded Chili’s nearly 48 years ago, will launch Loop 9 BBQ, a premium barbeque restaurant with homemade desserts. The first location will be at 2951 Texas 161 South in Grand Prairie’s new EpicCentral shops. “There’ll never be too many barbecue restaurants, and there’ll never be too many Tex-Mex restaurants, so we feel like if we do a good job there’s a chance to break into the market,” said Lavine.

According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, Loop 9 BBQ will open daily at 11 A.M. Lavine hopes the restaurant can grow to the level of other local favorites like Pecan Lodge or Terry Black’s. Maybe one day it will even be as big as Chili’s.
