Those living in the Texas Panhandle, southern Oklahoma, and even New Mexico were probably woken up by a strong earthquake that shook the region around 5:21 in the morning.

According to the Texas Tribune, the rare, 5.0 magnitude earthquake is the strongest ever recorded in the region.

The earthquake occurred nearly 24 miles south-southeast of Spearman near the top of the Texas-Oklahoma border.

Thus far, thankfully, no structural damage or injuries have been reported, and the U.S. Geological Survey expects economic losses to be minimal.
