The Neiman Marcus shop in downtown Dallas is set to close its doors forever on September 30.
However, the building may stand forever as the Dallas Landmark Commission has taken the first steps to give the site at 1618 Main St. a historical designation.
According to WFAA, in their request the Dallas Landmark Commission stated that the building "holds deep historical, architectural, and cultural significance to the city of Dallas, the State of Texas, and the broader United States."
Commissioners say that preserving the building will “honor the legacy of its founders while safeguarding one of the city's most significant landmarks during a challenging period for downtown.”
Neiman Marcus first opened its doors in a different building downtown Dallas 1907 but after a fire moved to its current address on Main Street in 1914.
Neiman Marcus' owner has yet to announce what it they plan to do with the building moving forward.
