‘The Batman’ is only three months away from its highly anticipated premiere, but director Matt Reeves isn’t making the waiting process easy on fans. Earlier this week the director revealed his version of Batman was inspired by rock legend Kurt Cobain. Now, Reeves is exposing the inspiration for the film’s villain, the Penguin.
When Colin Farrell was picked to play Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a Penguin, many fans were surprised due to the actor’s appearance. However, after seeing images from the film, and the trailer, fans now can’t wait to see how Farrell plays the role. Making the role even more intriguing, director Matt Reeves recently claimed some of the most iconic gangsters in movies and television history inspired the character. While there are shades of Tony Soprano and Bob Hoskins in the role, it was Fredo Corleone from ‘The Godfather’ he took the most from.

“There’s a touch of John Cazale as Fredo in The Godfather. He’s a mid-level mobster guy and he’s got a bit of showmanship to him, but you can see that he wants more and that he’s been underestimated. He’s ready to make his move,” said Reeves. According to Bro Bible, Farrell has also talked about Fredo Corleone’s inspiration on the role. Hopefully Reeves can stop revealing secrets about his film.
