The road to the Academy Awards now goes through Dallas!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced that Dallas has replaced Miami as one of six metropolitan areas in the United States where films can qualify for Oscars consideration.
Not only that, the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF) was recognized as an Oscar qualifying festival for short films, making North Texas a premium location for filmmakers looking for Oscar nods.
Rebekah Louisa Smith, known as The Film Festival Doctor, told D Magazine she is "very excited" for the city of Dallas, and believes this will people take notice of the opportunities available to creatives here.
She said, "We can offer more than just qualifying and filming [support]… There's a lot of stuff that we can do for filmmakers to build communities and connections, and I think that can really start flourishing now."
