Grapevine may be the “Christmas Capital of Texas,” but another spot in North Texas has staked their claim as the epicenter of Halloween fun.

Denton is not only the home Mean Green, but the Texas Legislature has officially recognized the city as the “Halloween Capital of Texas!”

Last year, the city’s inaugural Days of Denton Halloween event drew more than 660,000 visitors from across the nation and internationally, and the city offered over 200 programs and events, 15 downtown décor activations, and innovative interactive experiences.

City Manager Sara Hensley said in a statement on the City of Denton website, “We’re incredibly proud to receive this recognition from the State of Texas.

“The success of our first year was the result of hard work by our City staff, collaboration with local artists, and strong support from our business community—all coming together to create something truly special for Denton.”

Under the Texas Government Code, the Halloween Capital of Texas designation will remain in effect for 10 years from the date the resolution was passed.
