The food industry has taken quite a hit over the last few years, as a number of different product shortages have forced restaurants to either raise prices or remove items from the menu altogether. Now, a new shortage has emerged, forcing a beloved DFW BBQ joint to remove a fan favorite from the menu. Heim BBQ recently announced they have removed turkey from the menu due to the price increase.
Over the last year, the cost for fresh bone-in split turkey breasts has increased $1.30 more per pound, affecting both grocery shoppers and restaurant operators. “For the last month, we haven’t been making money with turkey,” said Travis Heim, who recently made the difficult decision to remove the dish from the menu at Heim BBQ. According to WFAA, the restaurant is hoping to bring turkey back to the menu by Thanksgiving.

“I think turkeys are going to be hard to come by in November,” said Heim. While many are hoping this issue is resolved by Thanksgiving, one turkey brand is expecting to charge 13% more for their birds this year. As for Heim BBQ, for now fans will just have to stick to the many other options on their menu.
