Car break-ins are on the rise, and police in Duncanville are doing something a little different to warn drivers about leaving valuables in sight. The Duncanville Police Department joined a number of police departments throughout Texas leaving fake citations on parked cars that have valuables in sight. The fake citations lets drivers know if they “pass” or “fail” the police inspection.
Many drivers in Duncanville have recently spotted citations sitting on the windshield of their parked car, but while normally this would ruin someone’s day, these drivers are happy to quickly learn the citations aren’t real. Instead Duncanville police are leaving these notes as warnings of potential car break-ins. “We call them report cards,” said Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Arias.

According to WFAA, police will leave these fake tickets on cars if they notice valuables that are in sight from outside the vehicle. If nothing can be seen, cars get a passing grade on the ticket, but if a window is down, or something can be seen, the ticket is marked “fail.” Hopefully this helps prevent car break-ins in the area.
