The people of Richardson are tired of the traffic.
Not on 75, but in the sky as residents are “sick” of Amazon delivery drones flying above their neighborhoods.
According to NBC DFW, residents are tired of delivery drones constantly flying over their homes and schools on a regular basis and describe the traffic as a “drone highway” in the sky.
Richardson resident Angie Rogers said, “I can hear them even in my home when I'm inside with the TV on. I can still hear them.”
Resident Kristi Graham added, “They've taken away our peace in our neighborhood and our neighborhood streets.
“These drones are barely at 100 feet over our homes. We’ve had drone operators come out and demonstrate... and it is way too low.”
Some residents have even taken to the streets, protesting to “raise awareness and demand action and greater oversight.”
Richardson city manager Don Magner said they were encouraging Amazon to increase their base flying altitude to reduce neighbors' concerns, and though the company said that customer feedback on Prime Air deliveries has been overwhelmingly positive., and that they made efforts to engage with the community before launch.
Amazon said in a statement, “Our team engaged extensively with Richardson residents, city leaders, and neighborhood associations before launching drone delivery in this area.
“We also increased flight altitudes and adjusted flight paths to reduce impact on residential areas.”
They added though that they respect the right of residents to peacefully protest and values community feedback, and "will continue working with community members and city officials to address their questions and concerns.”
