Spring breakers all across the state of Texas have to watch for things that people across the rest of the nation don't have to. Poisonous "blue dragons" and toxic red algae are only just the beginning.
Experts are now warning those visiting Texas beaches to be on the lookout for the mysterious "eyeballs from the sea."
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "very little is known" about the mysterious jellyfish-like organism. It is a type of Rhizophysa that is sometimes referred to as "spaghetti monsters" or "thread jellies," and literally looks like someone popped the eyeball out of a giant creature and dropped it in the ocean.
The creature was spotted along Mustang Beach in Port Aransas earlier this week, and people should avoid them as they do pack a pretty painful sting.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department compared them to their "cousin" the man o' war, stating, "If you see these floating up on the beach, just admire their creepy beauty, but don't touch, unless you want to feel the pain of the eyeball from the sea."
