Ever since AT&T Stadium opened in 2009, major sporting events from all over the world have made their way to North Texas. Along with the home of the Cowboys, the new Texas rangers stadium and a number of other venues have made DFW a major sports destination. Now, one of the world’s biggest sporting events may make its way to the metroplex in 2026, as FC Dallas’ president recently claimed North Texas has a “realistic chance" of hosting 2026 World Cup.

The last time the World Cup was in the United States, in 1994, Dallas hosted several of the opening round games. However, with the United States potentially hosting the 2026 tournament, FC Dallas president Dan Hunt believes DFW could potentially even host the final game of the tournament.
“If we can host the 2026 World Cup in Dallas, it will set forth a legacy of another 10 or 20 years that will grow the game in an incredible, exponential way,” said Hunt.

According to Axios, a decision on the host of the 2026 World Cup is expected to be made by the end of the year. For now, DFW will just have to root on team USA from their couch as they look to win the 2022 tournament in Qatar. Hopefully in 2026, we will be rooting on the team in person.
