Trying to run away from the police is never a good idea. While no criminal wants to get caught, trying to escape only makes things worse. One criminal learned that the hard way recently, as he was arrested despite his daring escape attempt. The man had jumped off a 50 ft. bridge into a Florida river, only to be caught by a police boat once in the water.

Police in Fort Myers, Florida were recently involved in a high speed chase with a man who stole a van from his aunt. As seen in the clip that recently went viral, the man crashed the van while on a bridge. Instead of giving up at that point, he decided on one last escape attempt. Video shows the man leaping from the 50 ft. bridge into the Caloosahatchee River.

While the criminal likely thought his daring attempt helped him get away, he was eventually caught by a police boat and arrested. According to Boing Boing, the man was taken to the hospital for injuries, though his current condition has not been reported. Hopefully, now he knows running from the police is never a good idea.
