There are many who thought by now they’d be driving a flying car. While technology hasn’t reached that point yet, it appears the world just got one step closer to flying cars being a reality. A startup from California recently received an airworthiness certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration, and it could mean people driving flying cars by 2025.

The FAA recently certified for testing Alef Automotive’s fully electric vehicle that can both fly and travel on roads to receive US government approval. According to CNN, the vehicle can hold one or two occupants and will have a road-range of 200 miles and a flying range of 110 miles. While the company believes these could be commercially available by 2025, the come with a $300,000 price tag.

While Alef Automotive is not the first company to receive a special airworthiness certificate form the FAA, they are different because their vehicle is the first that can function both on roads and in the air, to appear like a normal car and to park in a normal parking space. Soon, flying cars may not just be something in sci-fi movies.
