At one time, flying cars seemed like they would be the norm in the future. However, while many expected the world would have flying cars by now, the automobile remains grounded; for now. There are a number of flying car prototypes currently in production, and one just reached a major milestone, completing an intercity test flights.
The Klein Vision AirCar took the next step towards becoming a consumer product completing 142 test flights and a recent flight the international airport in Nitra to the international airport in Bratislava. Once the flying car landed in Bratislava, it converted from aircraft to automobile, and was driven from the airport to downtown. According to Fox News, the flying car features four wheels, a pusher propeller, switchblade-style retractable wings and a telescoping tail that becomes road legal on the ground in minutes.
“This flight starts a new era of dual transportation vehicles. It opens a new category of transportation and returns the freedom originally attributed to cars back to the individual." Said Professor Stefan Klein who road inside the vehicle for the test flight. While there still is no consumer price for the Slovakian-designed two-passenger vehicle, it currently costs $2.3 million to develop. Hopefully by the time it’s ready to purchase, it costs much less.
